Destination Redwood

This advertisement was a collaborative effort with Stuart Rosebrock who was responsible for the layout. I modeled and rendered the three sets of elevator doors in 3D Studio MAX and Stuart assembled the renderings with the photos in Photoshop. Initially a two-page spread version was published in Elevator World Magazine and has been reinforced with the single page version show below.

2008 Noah’s Ark Calendar

I recently had the privilege to work with artist Klaus Ernst on his 2008 Noah’s Ark Calendar. The calendar features thirteen original paintings by Klaus which all tell an “inside story” of the Noah’s Ark journey.

My contributions on this project were layout, scanning and color correction. I have included a couple of sample images below. I would love to showcase the entire project here but then who would buy a calendar?

About Klaus:

Klaus Ernst was born and raised in Germany where he worked as a professional artist/illustrator for magazines and newspapers. He also illustrated for the Karlsbad Awards and self published a variety of calendars. In 1982 he moved to the states and currently resides in Ohio with his wife Lynn and their three children. His caricature art has been published in Utah Business magazine, Salt Lake City magazine and others. Since 1996 he has been working continuously with Books & Culture magazine: A Christian Review.

Ratchet Strap Snake

This photograph and advertisement were done for F.M. Manufacturing Inc. The company makes a line of portable restroom trailers that does not require the user to strap down the port-a-johns for transport. Instead, each unit is secured to the trailer by their skids with a clamp. Genius.

The idea was to vilify straps by fashioning one into a snake poised to strike. The ad was first run in the August 2007 issue of PRO magazine.

Wanted Posters

The time has come once again for VBS portraits. This year I shot over 225 portraits, which included all of the staff and kids present during the first three nights of VBS.

The idea was to design a wanted poster that would work with the Avalanche Ranch theme. It was a lot more ambitious than last year’s mere 58 portraits. There was also quite a bit more design time and post processing this time but Photoshop’s actions and batch automation took the edge off of repetitive parts. The final images were printed 4×6 at a local 1-hour lab and sent home with the kids on the fourth night.

Below are some of my favorites. If you would like additional copies of your child’s wanted poster, please contact Mindi at the church office.

The Pod

I made this animation back in 1999 for a trade show video using 3D Studio MAX. The animation was used in the beginning of a promo video to introduce the “birth” of a product. I remember this being a very fun project and decided to make it the first entry in the “Blast From the Past” category.
